Gilmour has many many of my favorite solos no doubt... Have to look that one up! Thanks!
He's on my personal top ten list ( and many others I'm sure)

Another really good one that came to mind when I heard it on the local community college radio
station ( KACC ALVIN TX) this evening was the solo (and overall sound) on "25 or 624" by
the late great Terry Kath of CHICAGO. Tragic how he passed

( Ironically he is the one who did the vocals on "Color my world"
again written by another member Jimmy Pankow one of the horn section!)

Robert Lamm the keyboard player wrote the lyrics and basic changes but as most of that bands
music at that time, it did not really become a "song" until all the band took the raw material
and turned it into one! And Mr. Kath sure laid down on helluva solo on this on IMHO

For sure it's up there in the best wah wah solos from 1970 or earlier.
Cream, Jimi H probably the only ones with something this great early on.

off the top of my head ,of the thousands of guitar solos I've heard over the years , three immediately come to mind...Martin Barre in Aqualung, Ritchie Blackmore's work on Highway Star from Deep Purple " Made In Japan' and a more modern piece Nels Cline from Wilco, his solo on Impossible Germany never fails to amaze me...

but that is just as this moment....
